Description
Garmin GAD-29C Arinc Converter.
Garmin Part Number 010-01172-20
The Garmin GAD 29C Arinc Converter (Part Number: 010-01172-20) is a compact, lightweight ARINC 429 data bus interface adapter.
Primarily designed for Experimental Amateur-Built (EAB) and Light Sport Aircraft (LSA), it acts as a translator or “bridge” between high-end, IFR-capable GPS navigators and modern electronic flight displays.
Key Functions & Capabilities:
1. ARINC 429 Translation
The ARINC 429 data bus is the industry standard for high-end commercial and general aviation electronics, whereas many experimental flight displays communicate via CAN bus or serial connections. The GAD 29C translates these protocols so different generations and tiers of avionics can seamlessly talk to one another.
2. Multi-Navigator Integration
The module can interface with up to two independent IFR-capable GPS navigators simultaneously. It is commonly used to bridge:
- Navigators: Garmin GTN 650/750 series, GTN Xi series, GNX 375, or legacy GNS 430/530 systems.
- Flight Displays: Garmin G3X™, G3X Touch™, and G5 electronic flight instruments.
3. Unlocks Advanced IFR Features
Without an adapter like the GAD 29C, a flight display might only show basic GPS data. By enabling full ARINC 429 communication, it unlocks advanced capabilities on your display, including:
- WAAS LPV vertical approach guidance (glideslope indicators).
- GPSS (GPS Steering) for smoother autopilot roll steering.
- Coupled VNAV (Vertical Navigation).
- Full HSI (Horizontal Situation Indicator) map navigation.
4. Active Traffic Support
Beyond GPS navigation, the GAD 29C can be used to adapt active traffic systems—such as the Garmin GTS™ 800—for display on G3X or G3X Touch screens.
