Aircraft Electronics & Wiring Classes
(Now Instructional DVD Series).
Due to the fact that our classes were so popular that we
were unable to accommodate everyone interested, we have decided to basically
film the classes on DVD! We have purchased an extremely nice, high end
professional 3 CCD Sony Video camera and luckily one of our technicians is
a master Audio & Video Production Technician with years of experience in
professional of many professional DVD's and mixed albums.
We will try to keep the content relative and informational
with the same topics as covered by our classes. There will be a series of
DVD's starting at basic and then becoming more advanced and finally focusing on
individual units such as EFIS's, Audio Panels, etc..
Below is a brief outline of our DVD series.
Aircraft Wiring BASICS
Cost: $TBD
This is a VERY basic DVD for anyone interested in the absolute
basics of aircraft electrical systems and wiring - NO advanced subject matter.
Subjects covered in the course include:
- Basic electrical theory as it pertains to your aircraft
(don't worry, we won't dwell in this boring area, but it needs to be covered)!
- Types of wire and what they mean to you. Tefzel,
Teflon, PVC, etc..
- Types of Coax cable and why you should use certain types
over others.
- Electrical Tools, including Crimpers, strippers, soldering
tools, heat guns, etc..
- Connectors, Terminals, Termination, Bus Bars, Fuses and
Circuit Protection.
- Typical Wire Stripping (this isn't that difficult, but
still needs to be learned).
- Stripping and handling of Shielded wire.
- COAX Stripping (not as easy as you might think).
- Wire termination and crimping (ring terminals, spade
terminals, pins, etc..).
- Terminating HEAVY DUTY / LARGE cables (Battery, Starter,
etc..).
- Soldering of wire, connectors, pins, terminals, and more.
- Basic circuit construction. Students will build a
simple electrical circuit, including a "bus", switch, fuse / circuit breaker,
and switched unit / lamp.
- Wire Lacing, bundling of wires, harness management and wire
routing.
- Aircraft lighting basics.
- More basic subjects as determined by instructors.
- Q&A throughout the day.

Advanced Aircraft Electrical & Avionics Wiring
Cost: $TBD
This DVD will focus on advanced wiring of your avionics, engine instruments,
lighting and audio system in your airplane. In this class, ALL
students will actually build an Intercom avionics harness that you may take with
you. Details are:
- We will build and wire up a PS Engineering
intercom & Audio panel, ready to hook up to your radio and be installed in an aircraft.
- Intercom harness will include PTT switches, Headset & Mic
Jacks, power/ground leads, and leads for interconnection to your radio. You
will actually power up your intercom and test it.
- Additional subjects covered will be interconnections
between your radio stack, transponder wiring, communications formats (Serial,
Parallel, Gray Code, Analog, Digital, etc..)
- Additional subjects as time permits - Engine systems,
charging, starting, etc..
